Travel Clinic London: All Vaccinations, Malaria Prevention, and Doctor-Led Travel Health

The Online GP by The Wellness is a comprehensive travel clinic in Marylebone, central London, offering the full range of travel vaccinations, antimalarial prescriptions, and doctor-led travel health consultations. We are a registered yellow fever vaccination centre and provide all travel vaccines including hepatitis A and B, typhoid, rabies, Japanese encephalitis, cholera, tick-borne encephalitis, meningitis ACWY and MenB, and diphtheria/tetanus/polio boosters. All vaccinations are administered by GMC-registered doctors who assess your individual itinerary, medical history, and risk factors. Same-day appointments are available for last-minute travellers. Approximately 70 million international trips are made by UK residents each year (ONS, 2025), and proper pre-travel health preparation prevents illness that can ruin a holiday, derail a business trip, or, in serious cases, be life-threatening.

Your Travel Health Consultation

Every travel health assessment at The Online GP by The Wellness is conducted by a GMC-registered doctor who reviews your full itinerary (countries, regions, urban vs rural, duration), accommodation type (hotel, hostel, camping, homestay), planned activities (trekking, diving, animal contact, healthcare work), your medical history, current medications, allergies, and vaccination history, and any specific health concerns related to your trip.

Based on this assessment, your doctor recommends the vaccines you need, prescribes antimalarials or other travel medications, provides destination-specific health advice (food and water safety, insect bite prevention, sun protection, altitude considerations), and administers vaccines at the same appointment where possible.

Vaccines by Destination

South and Southeast Asia (India, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal): Hepatitis A (essential), typhoid (strongly recommended), hepatitis B (recommended for longer stays), rabies (recommended for rural travel, cycling, and animal contact), Japanese encephalitis (recommended for rural areas and longer stays), and antimalarials for malaria-risk areas. Diphtheria/tetanus/polio booster if not current.

Sub-Saharan Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda, Senegal): Hepatitis A, typhoid, yellow fever (required for many countries), meningitis ACWY (recommended, required for the meningitis belt), rabies (recommended), hepatitis B, cholera (for high-risk settings), and antimalarials for most destinations.

Central and South America (Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador): Hepatitis A, typhoid, yellow fever (required for many countries, particularly Brazil and parts of the Amazon basin), rabies (recommended for jungle travel), hepatitis B, and antimalarials for Amazon and jungle regions.

Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Oman): Meningitis ACWY (required for Hajj/Umrah), hepatitis A, typhoid, hepatitis B for longer stays. We provide Hajj/Umrah vaccination certificates.

Eastern Europe and Central Asia (Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Uzbekistan): Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tick-borne encephalitis (recommended for forested areas), rabies for rural travel, diphtheria/tetanus/polio booster.

Australasia and Pacific (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea): Hepatitis A for some destinations, Japanese encephalitis for rural PNG, rabies for wildlife contact.

Your doctor will tailor recommendations to your specific itinerary rather than applying a generic country checklist.

Antimalarial Medication

Malaria remains one of the most serious risks for travellers to endemic areas. Approximately 1,500 to 2,000 cases of imported malaria are diagnosed in the UK each year (PHE, 2025), with several deaths. Prevention requires both medication and bite avoidance.

Atovaquone/proguanil (Malarone). The most commonly prescribed antimalarial for short trips. Taken daily, starting 1 to 2 days before entering the malaria zone, throughout the stay, and for 7 days after leaving. Generally well tolerated. Not suitable for severe kidney impairment.

Doxycycline. A cost-effective alternative taken daily, starting 1 to 2 days before, throughout, and for 4 weeks after. Also provides protection against some other travel-related infections. Side effects can include sun sensitivity and gastrointestinal upset. Not suitable in pregnancy.

Mefloquine (Lariam). Taken weekly, starting 2 to 3 weeks before travel. Suitable for longer trips where daily medication is impractical. Can cause neuropsychiatric side effects (vivid dreams, anxiety, mood changes) in some patients. Not suitable for people with a history of depression, anxiety, epilepsy, or certain cardiac conditions.

Your doctor will recommend the most appropriate antimalarial based on your destination, trip duration, medical history, and any drug interactions.

Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre

The Online GP by The Wellness is a registered yellow fever vaccination centre authorised to administer the yellow fever vaccine and issue the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP). This certificate is the only internationally recognised proof of yellow fever vaccination and is required for entry to many African and South American countries.

The yellow fever vaccine is a live vaccine providing lifelong protection from a single dose (WHO position since 2016). It must be administered at least 10 days before arrival in a yellow fever risk area. The vaccine is generally well tolerated, with the most common side effects being mild headache, muscle aches, and low-grade fever 5 to 10 days after vaccination. It is not suitable for everyone: your doctor will screen for contraindications including severe egg allergy, immunosuppression, pregnancy, and age under 9 months.

Last-Minute Travel Health

Leaving for your trip in a few days? We see last-minute travellers regularly. While 6 to 8 weeks advance notice is ideal for completing multi-dose courses, significant protection can still be achieved at short notice.

Single-dose vaccines that provide rapid protection include hepatitis A (protection within approximately 2 weeks), typhoid injectable (protection within approximately 2 weeks), meningitis ACWY (protection within approximately 2 weeks), and yellow fever (protection within 10 days). Antimalarials can be started 1 to 2 days before departure. Traveller's diarrhoea kits can be prescribed on the spot.

Do not assume it is too late. Contact us and we will maximise your protection within the time available.
