Transparent Labs Grass Fed Casein Protein in Chocolate is a slow-digesting protein food made from grass-fed micellar casein — the naturally occurring form of casein found in milk, known for its gradual amino acid release over several hours. Where whey is fast and suited to the post-workout window, casein is better matched to periods of extended fasting, particularly overnight. A scoop before bed provides a sustained supply of protein through the night, which is when muscle repair and adaptation tend to peak.
This suits anyone who trains seriously and wants to close a nutritional gap that a post-workout shake alone doesn't cover. It also works as a high-protein snack between meals when appetite is low but protein targets still need meeting. The chocolate flavour makes it a practical choice for mixing into Greek yoghurt or simply stirring into water or milk.
Transparent Labs is a brand that publishes full ingredient lists and avoids proprietary blends — what matters here is the single primary ingredient: grass-fed micellar casein. Grass-fed sourcing is associated with better fatty acid profiles in dairy, though the functional benefit in a protein product is primarily the quality of the protein itself. For those trying to maintain or build lean mass, consistently hitting protein targets across a full 24-hour period matters. This product is designed to fill the overnight gap that most protein strategies overlook.
Grass-fed Micellar Casein

Mix one scoop before bed, with water, milk, or stirred into Greek yoghurt. It can also be used as a high-protein snack between meals. Check the packaging for the specific serving size and any additional guidance.
Whey digests quickly, producing a rapid rise in amino acids that tapers off within a couple of hours. Micellar casein digests slowly, releasing amino acids gradually over several hours — a better match for the overnight fast when no other food is consumed.
Yes. It works well as a high-protein snack between meals when you want sustained satiety without a large caloric addition. The slow-release profile means it is less ideal immediately post-workout, where faster protein sources tend to be preferred.
Casein is a dairy-derived protein, so it is not suitable for those with a dairy allergy. Those with lactose intolerance vary in their tolerance of casein products — check the packaging for lactose content and consult your GP or dietitian if you are unsure.
Grass-fed dairy is generally associated with a more favourable fatty acid profile compared to conventional dairy. In a protein product like this, the primary functional difference is the quality and source of the protein itself rather than a significant fat-content benefit.
The specific protein content per serving is listed on the product packaging. Check the nutrition label for accurate macros before incorporating it into your daily targets.

Been using this for about six weeks now, stir it into Greek yoghurt before bed and it makes a genuinely good dessert. Texture is thick but not chalky like some casein I've tried. I'm hitting my protein targets across the full day now without forcing down another chicken breast at 10pm. Noticed I'm recovering a bit better between sessions too — hard to say if that's purely this, but I'm happy with it.

Swapped over from a supermarket own-brand casein and the difference in ingredient transparency alone made it worth it. Mixes reasonably well in cold milk, chocolate flavour isn't too sweet. I use it every night after training. Does what I need it to do.

Really happy with the quality and the chocolate flavour is genuinely nice — not artificial tasting at all. My only gripe is the container size. At the price point I'd expect more servings per tub. Goes quickly if you're using it every night, so you're reordering pretty frequently. Would love a larger format option.

Started taking this before bed after a friend recommended it during marathon training. Sleep feels more restful and I wake up less hungry. Good stuff.

I appreciate that the ingredient list is clean and there's no weird blend you can't decode. I've tried a few casein proteins over the years and this is one of the better-tasting ones in the chocolate category. Mixes fine in water, though I prefer it with milk. Does the job overnight.

Mix it into quark with a bit of peanut butter and it's honestly a proper treat. High protein, keeps me full overnight, and I don't wake up ravenous. I'm in a calorie deficit at the moment and this has made hitting my protein target a lot more manageable.
