Green Pasture's Fermented Skate Liver Oil is a traditionally prepared liquid oil made from skate fish liver, slow-fermented rather than heat-extracted. Fermentation is chosen deliberately: it preserves the fat-soluble vitamins A and D and the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA that would otherwise be degraded by industrial processing. The result is an oil whose nutrient profile more closely resembles what the liver contains in its natural state.
The liquid format suits those who want flexible dosing and prefer to avoid the fillers and binders found in capsule products. It can be taken straight from the spoon or mixed into honey, nut butter, or a small amount of juice for those sensitive to the flavour. A single small daily serving is all that is needed.
This oil fits naturally into a nutrient-dense, whole-food approach to daily supplementation. It is particularly relevant for people whose diets are low in oily fish, or who are looking to support their intake of fat-soluble vitamins through a food-form source rather than isolated synthetic nutrients. Vitamins A and D together play roles in immune regulation, bone metabolism, and cellular function, while EPA and DHA are studied extensively for cardiovascular and cognitive health.
Green Pasture specialises in fermented fish oils and is one of very few producers using this low-temperature method at scale. The single ingredient — raw fermented skate liver oil — reflects a deliberately minimal formulation approach.
Raw fermented skate (fish) liver oil. Contains fish. For allergens, see ingredients in bold.

Take a quarter teaspoon (approximately 1.25 ml) once daily, or as directed by your practitioner. Take it straight from the spoon, or blend into honey, nut butter, or a small amount of juice. Shake gently before use, refrigerate after opening, and consume within 60 days.
Heat-based extraction can degrade heat-sensitive nutrients, including certain fat-soluble vitamins and fatty acids. Fermentation works at low temperatures, which is thought to preserve the nutrient profile closer to its natural state in the liver. It is a slower, more traditional process, and one of the main reasons this oil is formulated this way.
Fermented skate liver oil has a stronger, more pronounced taste than most refined fish oils, which are often deodourised. If you find it challenging straight, mixing it into a spoonful of honey or nut butter softens the flavour considerably without affecting the oil itself.
This product contains vitamin A, which requires care during pregnancy, as excess intake can be harmful. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive, consult your clinician before use — ideally to review your total vitamin A intake from all sources.
It is worth checking your total intake of fat-soluble vitamins across all supplements before combining them, as vitamins A and D are both present in this oil. Your practitioner can help you assess whether an additional supplement is appropriate or redundant.
Refrigerate after opening and consume within 60 days. Store out of direct light. Only open if the seal is intact, and keep out of reach of young children.

I'll be honest — the smell took some getting used to. But I mix it with a teaspoon of raw honey and it's totally manageable. Been taking it most mornings for about six weeks now and my energy through the grey winter months has noticeably held up better than usual. Nice to know it's just one ingredient, no fillers.

Use this alongside magnesium and K2. Fits well — the fat-soluble vitamins pair nicely. I take it with breakfast, usually on a bit of nut butter. Doesn't taste pleasant but it's not as bad as people make out.

The oil itself seems genuinely high quality and I appreciate the traditional fermentation approach — feels closer to a food than a supplement. My one gripe is the dropper mechanism. It's fiddly and tends to drip down the outside of the bottle, which makes the whole thing a sticky mess after a couple of weeks. Would give five stars if they sorted that out.

Switched from a standard cod liver oil capsule after reading about heat extraction destroying a lot of the nutrients. Been on this for a couple of months and I'm happy with it. Definitely not for the faint-hearted smell-wise but I just get it down quickly.

I spend a lot of time researching what I put in my body and this ticks every box for a genuine whole-food fat-soluble vitamin source. My diet isn't heavy on oily fish so this fills that gap. I've been using it for about four months now — started before a period of heavy training — and I feel like my recovery and general resilience are in a good place. The price is steep but given the production method and single-ingredient formula I think it's fair.

Really do rate this, and I like that it's not loaded with additives. The caveat is purely the price — £59.95 for a bottle that lasts about a month at the recommended dose is a stretch. I've dropped to every other day to make it go further, which I know isn't ideal. If the price came down even slightly I'd be on a regular subscription without hesitation.
