About This Product.

Pure Encapsulations NAC is a supplement providing N-Acetylcysteine, a precursor to glutathione — the body's most abundant endogenous antioxidant. By replenishing intracellular cysteine, NAC supports the ongoing production of glutathione, which plays a central role in neutralising oxidative stress and supporting detoxification pathways, particularly in the liver.

NAC is studied for its role in respiratory health, where it may help maintain normal mucus viscosity and support the mucosal lining of the airways. It is commonly considered by those with high oxidative load — including people in intensive training, individuals with regular alcohol intake, or those managing chronic inflammatory conditions. It also has a long-standing clinical history in liver support, particularly in contexts of toxic or metabolic stress.

This product suits those who have identified oxidative stress or poor antioxidant status through clinical assessment, or who are looking for targeted liver and respiratory support as part of a broader protocol. It fits naturally alongside broader antioxidant nutrition or as a standalone daily supplement.

Pure Encapsulations is a well-regarded professional supplement brand with a consistent focus on clean formulations. This product contains N-Acetylcysteine as the sole active, making it straightforward to integrate into an existing regimen without concern about overlapping nutrients from a complex blend.

How to Take It

i.

Take 1 capsule one to two times daily, as directed on the packaging. NAC is generally better tolerated when taken with food, particularly if you have a sensitive stomach.

Frequently Asked.

What is NAC and how does it work?

N-Acetylcysteine is a stable, bioavailable form of the amino acid cysteine. The body uses it to synthesise glutathione, a key antioxidant involved in liver detoxification and protection against oxidative damage in cells throughout the body.

Who is most likely to benefit from taking NAC?

NAC is most relevant for people with increased oxidative stress — such as those in heavy training, individuals with regular alcohol intake, or those with respiratory conditions where mucosal support is a priority. It is worth discussing with a clinician if you are unsure whether it fits your needs.

Is NAC safe to take alongside other supplements or medications?

NAC is generally well tolerated, but it can interact with certain medications, including nitroglycerin and some chemotherapy agents. If you take any prescription medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting NAC.

How long before I notice a difference?

NAC works by supporting ongoing antioxidant processes rather than producing an immediate noticeable effect. Most clinical observations are made over weeks to months of consistent use, and changes may be more apparent through markers like blood glutathione levels than through subjective feeling alone.

Can I take NAC on an empty stomach?

Some people experience mild nausea when taking NAC without food. Taking it with a meal is a sensible precaution, particularly when first starting the supplement.

Solid addition to my daily stack

Been taking this for about six weeks now alongside a vitamin C and magnesium. Hard to isolate what's doing what, but my chest has felt notably clearer since adding it in — I'd been getting a lot of congestion after early morning runs. Clean capsule, no filler nonsense. Worth the price for a brand I trust.

Does exactly what it says

Straightforward, no-frills supplement. That's what I want.

SO

Good quality but pricey for what you get

The quality is clearly there and I do feel like my energy and recovery have been a bit steadier since starting it. My only gripe is the price — £38.99 for the capsule count works out quite expensive per day compared to other NAC supplements I've seen. I'll probably keep buying it but it stings a bit.

Recommended by my functional medicine GP

Started this as part of a liver support protocol after some elevated enzymes showed up on bloodwork. Three months in, things are looking better — obviously can't attribute it all to one supplement but this was a key part of the plan. Pure Encapsulations is consistently the brand recommended to me by practitioners, and this is no different.

I take this before bed. Noticed my sleep feels a bit deeper, which I wasn't expecting. Mainly bought it for antioxidant support during a heavy training block. Will reorder.

Swapped from a cheaper brand and noticed the difference

Used to take a budget NAC from a high street chain. The difference in how I feel on this is noticeable — less bloating, feels cleaner somehow. Probably the lack of fillers. Not cheap, but I'd rather spend the money here.
