A private physician on retainer to a family in London costs £100,000 a year at The Wellness for a principal and three, £40,000 for one person, and £20,000 for each further member. Every person has everything in Platinum, and the physician holds fifty families and answers their own number at any hour.
There are two ways a family is looked after by us, and they suit different households.
The first is membership, one for each person. Signature is £6,950 a year and Platinum £17,450, each with its own record, and you can add everyone in one application. It suits a family who want same day care in London and a doctor by video when they travel.
The second is a physician on retainer to the household. Every person has everything in Platinum, and one physician who holds fifty families knows each of them, answers their own number at any hour, comes to the house and attends every specialist and admission. It suits a principal whose diary, travel and privacy make a physician of their own the simplest answer.
The retainer is £40,000 a year for one person and £100,000 for a principal and three. Each further member of the household is £20,000.
Published family retainers with a physician run from $40,000 to $100,000 and more a year. Ours sits at the top of that range, and the reason is the number of families. Each of our physicians holds fifty families and no more, so the physician has the time to know each household as well as a family doctor once did.
First, everything in Platinum, for every person covered. The executive physical every year, the screening each person’s age and history call for, a longevity plan reviewed every quarter with the bloods it needs, the flu vaccine, six house calls and ten guest passes each.
Then what Platinum does not hold. A physician who holds fifty families and no more, chosen by the family after meeting two. Their own number, answered at any hour, with a named colleague covering when they are away. House calls whenever the household needs one, at the house, the office or the aircraft in London. And the physician at every specialist appointment and hospital admission, here and abroad, with the letter brought back into one record, owned by the family and held under the family’s own reference where the office asks for that.
For a planned trip, the physician can travel with the principal at a day rate agreed before the diary is set.
The average person in England has 5.16 consultations a year with a GP practice, according to a University of Oxford study, so a household of four has about twenty. On the retainer every one of them is with the physician who knows the family, and the reviews and the specialists sit on top of that.
Hospital care, surgery, anything a specialist charges for and tests beyond Platinum are billed at what they cost us plus 20%, with the invoice attached.
So the retainer is the physician’s time and the organisation around it, and everything a third party charges is passed to the family at a stated margin. The office can see what was paid, to whom, and why.
Add up the household on membership first. Four people on Platinum is £69,800 a year, each with a named physician and the executive physical, seen in our London clinics, including Marylebone and Belgravia from 7am to 9pm every day.
The retainer adds £30,200 to that for one thing, a physician of the family’s own. One who holds fifty families, answers their own number, comes to the house whenever needed, sits beside you with the specialist and can travel with you. If the family does not need that, four Platinum memberships are the better purchase, and we would say so on the first call.
The office writes to us through the family offices page. You meet two physicians and choose one. The physician signs the office’s own confidentiality terms before the first meeting, and the first annual reviews are booked around the family’s diary.
If the physician you would have is full, you are told why, the same week, and nothing is charged.
Every person keeps their own record inside the family’s, so a teenager’s appointment stays theirs.
The first month is spent on the reviews. Each person has the executive physical, the physician reads every result with them, and by the end of it there is a plan for each person in the household, written into the family’s record and reviewed every quarter after that.
$40,000
to $100,000 and more a year per family is the published range for family retainers with a physician, where each physician holds fifty families.
