A doctor at home in Monaco, day and night
Since 1 October 2025 a doctor can visit your home in Monaco at night through Médecins de Garde Monaco, on 116 117 from 7pm to 7am, with visits billed at the agreed rates. By day the local practices share an on-call rota, and in an emergency you call 18 or 112.

The night doctor service
Médecins de Garde Monaco is a non-profit service that sends a doctor to your home for medical needs that are not emergencies. It runs from 7pm to 7am, seven days a week and every day of the year, and you reach it on 116 117 [1]. France already uses 116 117 for medical care that is not an emergency [2]. It began work on 1 October 2025, with an electric car for its visits across the Principality [1].
Before it began, the on-call home visit service ran only until 10pm, which left no home visits in the early hours [3]. Between 15 and 20 doctors practising in Monaco and in neighbouring France take part [4]. Monaco Tribune described the service as available to residents and Monégasques, so if you are visiting, ask on the call whether a doctor can come to you [4].
When you call 116 117, the call goes first to the dispatch centre of the Monaco fire service, which passes it to the doctor on duty [4] [2]. Have your address, the door code and a phone number the doctor can call back ready before you dial.
What a visit costs
The doctors’ on-call payments are funded by Monaco’s social security funds, and each visit is billed at the agreed rates [4]. Monaco Tribune reported that the doctors have committed not to charge more than twice the agreed fee for patients insured under the carte bulle [4]. Monaco Life reported the cap as twice the standard rate for private consultations [3]. The two reports differ on who the cap covers, so ask about the fee when you call, especially if you are visiting from abroad.
The Caisses Sociales de Monaco publish the agreed fees. A GP home visit is billed from €35, with a travel supplement from €35 and a night supplement from about €55 [5]. On a Sunday or a public holiday the table lists a supplement of about €40 [5]. The same table sets higher rates for some insurance cards and shows what the Caisses reimburse. Keep the itemised bill, because your insurer will ask for it when you claim, whether that is the Caisses or a travel or private insurer.
A doctor during the day
During the day, care comes from the local medical practices, and the government describes the night service as complementing their daytime cover [1]. The Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace publishes the rota of GPs on call and of pharmacies on duty on its website [6]. The government’s public service site points to MonacoSanté for the doctor, pharmacy and osteopath on duty each day [7].
Monaco has more than 80 doctors, up from around fifty in 2022, according to Hello Monaco at the launch of the night service [8].
If you have a doctor in Monaco, ask at your first appointment whether the practice makes home visits, how to reach it out of hours and who covers when your doctor is away. Keep a short list of your medicines, allergies and recent results on your phone, because a visiting doctor may not have your records.
When it is an emergency
The night service is for needs that are not emergencies. For a life threatening problem, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of a stroke, heavy bleeding or a serious injury, call the fire and emergency service on 18 or 112 [7].
The emergency department at the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace is open around the clock, every day of the year, with separate lines for adults and for children [9]. If you are unsure whether a problem is an emergency, call 18 or 112 and let the team on the line decide.
Five questions to ask a doctor who visits
A visit goes better when your list of medicines and any recent results are ready when the doctor arrives.
- What will the visit cost, and is it billed at the agreed rate?
- Can you see my records, or should I give you my history now?
- Will you send a note of the visit to my own doctor?
- If I need a prescription tonight, which pharmacy is on duty?
- Who follows up tomorrow if I am not better?
