How a health check at The Wellness works

The longest checks on this page give you up to three hours shared between a doctor and a physiologist. The executive physical at The Wellness is a full day at 10 Portman Square with one physician for £2,995, who takes your history, chooses the tests, and reviews the day’s results with you before you leave, with a written plan. If a result needs more, the next step is arranged at the appointment. Longevity Foundation at £6,995 adds a full body MRI, DEXA and VO2max, read together by the same physician.

The evidence behind how we do it

At The Wellness one physician orders your tests, reads every result, including the radiologist’s report, and writes one plan, and the same practice sees you for anything that comes up afterwards.

About 3.9% of brain and body MRI scans in adults without symptoms show a potentially serious incidental finding, and about half of those are suspected cancers, which is why every finding needs a doctor and a plan. Gibson and colleagues, Potentially serious incidental findings on brain and body MRI of apparently asymptomatic adults, systematic review and meta-analysis, BMJ, 2018

Results that nobody acts on are a known failure in outpatient care. A systematic review of 19 studies found that between 6.8% and 62% of laboratory results were not followed up, and missed results were linked to delayed diagnoses. Callen and colleagues, Failure to follow-up test results for ambulatory patients, a systematic review, Journal of General Internal Medicine, 2012

Seeing the same doctor matters. A systematic review found 22 studies of continuity of doctor care and mortality, and 18 of them reported lower death rates when patients saw the same doctor more often. Pereira Gray and colleagues, Continuity of care with doctors, a matter of life and death? A systematic review of continuity of care and mortality, BMJ Open, 2018

Questions to ask before any health check

  • How long will I spend with a doctor, and is it the same doctor throughout?
  • Which tests are included, and why is each there for someone of my age and history?
  • When do I get my results, and who goes through them with me?
  • What happens if a result needs a referral or a repeat test?

How to read a health check price

Compare doctor time first, because a helpline, a 45 minute consultation and a full day with one physician are different things at different prices.

Count what you will actually be told. A report two weeks later and a conversation on the day are not the same.

Check whether follow up is included, or charged as a new appointment.

What the evidence says

A check given to everyone does not by itself make people live longer. A Cochrane review of 17 trials found that general health checks have little or no effect on deaths from all causes or from cancer. Krogsbøll, Jørgensen and Gøtzsche, General health checks in adults for reducing morbidity and mortality from disease, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2019

Fitness is one of the strongest measures of future health. In 122,007 adults who had a treadmill test, higher cardiorespiratory fitness was linked to lower long-term mortality. Mandsager and colleagues, Association of cardiorespiratory fitness with long-term mortality among adults undergoing exercise treadmill testing, JAMA Network Open, 2018

Warning signs at any provider

  • A fixed list of tests with no reason given for any of them.
  • Results posted to you with no doctor to go through them.
  • No plan for follow up if a result is abnormal.

What else people ask

At the seven providers on this page a health check costs from about £180 for Bluecrest's Health MOT to £5,515 for Cromwell Hospital's Premier. The executive physical at The Wellness is £2,995, and our blood panels start at £350. We read each price on the provider's own website on 23 October 2026.

A health MOT is a check of the common measures, usually blood pressure, weight, cholesterol, blood sugar and a blood panel. Bluecrest sells three, from about £180. A longer check adds time with a doctor, an ECG and sometimes imaging.

It depends on what happens next. A Cochrane review found that checks given to everyone do not by themselves make people live longer. A check is worth more when a doctor reads it against your history and acts on what it finds.

The executive physical at The Wellness is a full day with one physician. Nuffield Health gives up to three hours with a doctor and a physiologist, HCA Healthcare UK up to 75 minutes with a doctor, and The London Clinic an hour.

Yes. You do not need to be registered with a UK doctor. The clinic at 10 Portman Square is open every day from 7am to 9pm, and every fee is published in pounds before you confirm.
