What we see
General paediatrics covers the whole of childhood, which is a wide brief. In practice most families arrive with one of these.
The first year
Feeding, weight and the crying that will not settle
The months when everything is new and nothing has a name yet. Most of what worries parents here turns out to be manageable — but it needs someone to look properly and say so.
- Reflux, and the difference between reflux and cow’s milk protein allergy
- Not putting on weight, or dropping through the centiles
- Feeding difficulties, latch and weaning
- Colic, constipation and unsettled evenings
- Newborn checks, jaundice and tongue-tie review
One to five
Illness that keeps coming back
The age of the recurring problem — the same infection, the same cough, the same night. Worth an assessment when a pattern has set in rather than treating each episode on its own.
- Recurrent chest infections, wheeze and suspected asthma
- Recurrent tonsillitis and ear infections
- Eczema, food allergy and reactions
- Constipation and tummy pain
- Sleep that has never settled
- Speech and development that seems behind
Five to eighteen
Growth, school and the things they will not say
Older children are harder to read. This is the age where a proper appointment — with time in it — tends to find what shorter ones missed.
- Growth concerns, short stature, early or delayed puberty
- Headaches, tiredness and unexplained tummy pain
- Asthma and allergy that limits what they can do
- Concerns raised by school about attention or development
- A second opinion on a diagnosis you are not sure about

First consultation
The appointment most children only need once
A full 45 minutes with a consultant paediatrician. History, growth plotted, and a written plan you leave with — by secure video, or in the room if your child needs examining.

- A full history, taken properly and without hurrying
- Growth, weight and head circumference plotted on UK-WHO centiles
- A written plan, sent to you the same day
- Prescriptions and onward referrals where they are needed
- A physical examination when you come in person
Follow-up consultation
The same consultant, every time
A review with the same consultant who saw your child first — to check the plan is working and change it if it is not.
- Thirty minutes with the same consultant
- Response to treatment reviewed, and the plan adjusted
- Results explained in full when they have come back
- Growth re-plotted against the last visit
- An updated written plan
What it costs
A first consultation with a consultant paediatrician at The Wellness is £350 by secure video, or £395 in person, and lasts 45 minutes. A follow-up is £295 by video or £340 in person, over 30 minutes. Prescriptions and referral letters issued during the appointment are included. Tests, imaging and vaccines are charged separately.

What is included, and what is not
- Why in person costs more
- The consultation is the same length either way, and the consultant’s time and thinking are the same. The £45 difference is the physical examination and the room. Where an examination would change what we advise, we tell you at the time and bring you in.
- Included in the fee
- The consultant’s time before and after your appointment — reading any letters or results you bring, writing your plan, and notifying your GP with your consent. Prescriptions and referral letters issued during the appointment.
- Charged separately
- Blood tests, imaging, allergy testing and vaccines, quoted before anything is done. School reports and letters requested after your appointment.
- Insurance
- You are given an itemised receipt suitable for a claim. Cover varies by policy, so check with your insurer first. Note that most insurers require a named referral for a patient aged seventeen or under — an open referral is usually not accepted.
How it works.
A short intake — your child’s age, what has been happening, and how long for. Send any letters or results you already have; the consultant reads them before you meet.
Forty-five minutes with a consultant paediatrician by secure video, from wherever you are. A full history, growth plotted on UK-WHO centiles, and time to ask everything. If your child needs examining, we say so and bring you in.
A written plan the same day, in language you can use. Any prescription or referral you need, and your GP notified with your consent.
A follow-up with the same consultant to check the plan is working — and to change it if it is not.
Tell us what has been worrying you and how old your child is. We will find the earliest appointment that works — by video from wherever you are, or in the room if that is what your child needs.
