What a private GP or concierge doctor costs in Sydney

A private GP in Sydney charges up to A$615 for a weekend concierge consultation at Ponti Health, and a membership at the Longevity Medicine Institute costs A$10,000 a year for one person or A$18,000 for a family. Since 1 November 2025 a GP can claim a bulk billing incentive for any Medicare eligible patient, and Medicare pays back A$45.05 for a standard consultation however you are billed.

The highest published fees

Ponti Health in Surry Hills is a private billing practice that charges by consultation time, mostly in 15 minute blocks. Its longest new patient GP appointment, the New Comprehensive of 60 to 90 minutes, costs about A$565 on a weekday and A$615 at the weekend [1]. It comes with a concierge service, with text message access and help arranging appointments inside and outside the practice. Ponti notes that public holiday fees may be higher than weekend rates [1].

A shorter new patient visit for a single issue at Ponti, of 30 to 45 minutes, costs about A$255 to A$410 on a weekday and about A$310 to A$460 at the weekend. A valid card secures every booking, and a telehealth appointment is paid in full 7 days ahead [1].

We could not find a Sydney GP practice that publishes an annual concierge fee on its own page. The nearest published figure is a longevity membership at the Longevity Medicine Institute in Double Bay. Its Individual membership costs A$10,000 a year and covers physician reviews, repeat testing of key biomarkers and an updated nutrition and fitness plan. The Family membership costs A$18,000 and covers a couple, with a concierge GP service for children under 16 [2]. Further tests, including DEXA, MRI and genetic screening, are charged separately at standard rates [2].

What a standard visit costs

A routine appointment costs far less. Holdsworth House publishes a fee list for each of its GPs, with a standard consultation of A$130 to A$150 on a weekday. Saturday appointments are all privately billed at a higher fee, up to A$525 for a long consultation [3]. If you cancel within 2 hours of the appointment, the GP may charge a full fee, half the fee or a flat fee, and Medicare does not pay it back [3].

Sydney CBD Medical Centre, now part of Bupa, set its private fees from 1 January 2026 at A$90 for a standard consultation and A$140 for a long one [4].

A higher fee usually pays for a longer appointment, a weekend or evening slot, or a visit at short notice. A lower fee suits a short, single question with a doctor you already know.

What Medicare pays back

Medicare pays a fixed benefit for each GP consultation, whatever the practice charges. For a standard consultation of at least 6 minutes and less than 20 minutes, item 23, the schedule fee and the benefit are both A$45.05 [5]. What you pay above the benefit is the gap.

Since 1 November 2025, a GP who bulk bills can claim an incentive payment for every Medicare eligible patient. Before then the incentive applied only to children under 16 and holders of a Commonwealth concession card [6] [7]. Practices that join the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program and bulk bill every patient for every consultation receive a further quarterly payment of 12.5% of their Medicare revenue [6].

A doctor at home or at your hotel

Sydney CBD Medical Centre offers home visits to its existing patients within 20 kilometres of the city centre. The visits are not bulk billed and fees start from A$350 [4]. For a visit after hours that is bulk billed, the same page lists two home visit services. During opening hours the practice asks patients to come in where they can, because the doctor can assess them sooner, with their records and better equipment to hand [4].

A visit at home suits a sick child at night or an illness that keeps you in bed. It works best when the visiting doctor can see your history, which is easier when the same practice already holds your record.

Questions to ask before you pay a private fee

These apply to any practice, including ours.

  • Will I see the same doctor each time, and how soon can I be seen?
  • How long is a standard appointment, and what does a longer one cost?
  • Is the practice open at weekends, and does the fee change on those days?
  • Which tests and visits does a membership include, and which are charged on top?
  • Who will see my children, and from what age?

How our care in Sydney will be different

Our private GP visit in Sydney costs from A$390. We are building the clinic around one doctor for your whole family, who will know your history and results, see you on the day you ask and bring blood tests, imaging and specialists together.

We will see children from three months old, with a parent or guardian in the room. When you travel, your doctor will keep your record and stay your doctor, so you never have to repeat your story.
