PRP or Microneedling for Hair Loss? | The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness

You do not automatically need PRP if you have thinning hair. Microneedling may help as part of a treatment plan, particularly alongside minoxidil, but microneedling alone has less convincing evidence than the combination. At The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness, we assess the cause of your hair loss before recommending either treatment. A higher price does not mean a better choice for your scalp.

PRP or microneedling?

PRP involves taking a blood sample, concentrating the platelets and injecting the plasma into the scalp. Microneedling makes small controlled punctures in the skin. They are different procedures, and neither is a guaranteed cure for pattern hair loss. The goal is to improve the condition of existing follicles, not create new follicles in bald skin.

A 2023 systematic review and network meta analysis measured changes in hair density at 24 weeks. Minoxidil combined with microneedling performed better than PRP alone, minoxidil alone or microneedling alone. This is not a direct prediction of your result. Studies used different protocols and the comparison includes indirect evidence.

When treatment needs to wait

Sudden shedding, an inflamed scalp, pain or suspected scarring hair loss needs a diagnosis before a cosmetic procedure. Tell your clinician about medicines, bleeding problems and any previous reaction to treatment. Do not copy a study protocol or use a home device on an irritated scalp without advice.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends discussing microneedling with a dermatologist because it may worsen some scalp conditions. The depth, frequency and timing of any topical medicine need individual guidance. More frequent needling is not automatically more effective.

What a useful plan includes

Ask what outcome is being measured, when the review will take place and what happens if you do not respond. Comparable photographs help distinguish a visible change from differences in lighting or hairstyle. Hair grows slowly, so assess over months rather than days.

PRP can be considered when appropriate, but a clinic should explain medication options and their risks as well. Some people will prefer a less invasive plan. Others may choose combined treatment after discussing the evidence and the full cost.

Hair PRP pricing at The Wellness

Hair PRP is £450 per session or £1,215 for a course of three, a 10 percent saving compared with three individual sessions. Ask for the price of microneedling and any combined plan before booking. Separate tests, medicines and maintenance should be explained in advance.

Contact us on WhatsApp at +44 7961 280835, call 020 3951 3429 or email team@thewellnesslondon.com. Start with the diagnosis and choose the treatment after you understand the likely benefit.

Preparing for treatment and aftercare

Tell the clinician about medicines, allergies, bleeding problems and recent illness. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own. Ask what pain relief is proposed, when you can wash your hair and what to do if you develop unexpected symptoms. You should have written advice and a contact route after treatment.

Soreness or bruising can happen after a blood draw or scalp injection. Increasing pain, spreading redness, fever or discharge needs medical advice. A clinic should explain the risks without describing your own blood as a guarantee of safety.

Questions before choosing a course

Can a clinic guarantee regrowth? No. A biological response cannot be guaranteed. Ask how lack of response is handled and when the diagnosis and plan will be reviewed.

Is less shedding proof that hair has regrown? No. Shedding, density and appearance are different measures. Agree which matters to you and compare photographs under similar conditions.

Do I need a course before I know my diagnosis? No. Establish the likely cause and whether the proposed treatment fits it before buying a course. A fixed package should not replace a medical assessment.

Will I need maintenance? Possibly. The underlying condition can continue, so discuss ongoing treatment and its costs. Do not assume that a larger number of injections guarantees a better result.

Contact The Wellness to discuss your options

You do not need to arrive knowing which treatment to buy. Tell us what has changed, what you have tried and what outcome matters. Contact us on WhatsApp at +44 7961 280835, call 020 3951 3429 or email team@thewellnesslondon.com for an assessment and a clear explanation of the options.
