New Hair Loss Pill 2026. VDPHL01 Explained

VDPHL01 is a new once-daily tablet for pattern hair loss, made by the US company Veradermics. It is an extended-release form of minoxidil, the same medicine used in hair loss foams and solutions, designed to release slowly through the day. In a trial of 519 men, it increased hair count by about 30 hairs per square centimetre at 6 months, against about 7 with placebo. It is not yet approved anywhere. Low-dose oral minoxidil, the older version of the same idea, is already prescribed off-label by experienced doctors in London.
Key points
- In the Phase 2/3 trial known as Study 302, 519 men with mild to moderate male pattern hair loss took VDPHL01 or placebo once a day. At 6 months, hair count rose by 30.3 hairs per square centimetre with VDPHL01 against 7.3 with placebo.
- 79.3 percent of men on VDPHL01 reported improved hair coverage, against 35.6 percent on placebo, and the difference from placebo was visible from month 2.
- A confirmatory men’s trial is due to report in the second half of 2026 and a women’s trial of 556 participants in the first half of 2027. No licence application has been announced.
- At The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness, a hair consultation with trichoscopy is from £150, and a course of 3 PRP sessions is from £1,215.

What VDPHL01 is
Minoxidil was first developed as a blood pressure tablet, and hair growth was noticed as a side effect. Topical minoxidil became one of the standard hair loss treatments, and in recent years doctors have increasingly prescribed low doses of the original tablet off-label for hair. That works well for many people, but the tablet was designed to lower blood pressure, not to treat hair.
VDPHL01 is a version built for hair. It releases minoxidil slowly over the day, which the company says gives steady exposure to the follicle while aiming to keep effects on blood pressure and heart rate low. It is taken once a day.
What the trials show so far
Men
Study 302 is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 519 men with mild to moderate male pattern hair loss, testing an 8.5 mg dose. At 6 months, the count of thicker, non-vellus hairs in the target area rose by 30.3 per square centimetre with VDPHL01 against 7.3 with placebo, a highly significant difference. 79.3 percent of men on VDPHL01 felt their hair coverage had improved, against 35.6 percent on placebo. Full 12-month results are expected in the second half of 2026, alongside a second confirmatory trial, Study 304.
Women
An open-label Phase 2 study in women reported positive results in July 2026, with the company describing the medicine as generally well tolerated and reporting no treatment-related serious side effects and no heart-related side effects of special interest. A larger women’s trial of 556 participants is due to report in the first half of 2027.
What we do not yet know
Detailed safety data on blood pressure, heart rate, fluid retention and unwanted facial or body hair have not yet been published in full. Some headlines have claimed it beat finasteride and topical minoxidil, but the published Phase 3 data compare it with placebo. Approval would need regulators to review the full results, which usually takes time.

When might it arrive in the UK?
No licence application has been announced in the US or the UK. If the remaining trials are positive, a US application could follow, with the UK usually later. It is unlikely to be available in UK clinics before 2028 at the earliest, and that is an estimate rather than a promise.
What you can have now
Low-dose oral minoxidil
Low-dose oral minoxidil is already prescribed off-label by doctors experienced in hair loss, after assessment of blood pressure, heart health and medicines. Side effects can include unwanted facial or body hair, ankle swelling, a faster heartbeat and light-headedness, so it needs a doctor’s assessment and follow-up. An early shed is common and usually temporary. See oral minoxidil and the minoxidil shedding phase.
PRP
PRP supports follicles with growth factors from your own blood. A 2025 meta-analysis of 43 randomised trials and 1,877 participants found it increases hair density, and a 2024 meta-analysis found higher density with PRP plus minoxidil than with minoxidil alone. See combination hair treatment.
Other options
Finasteride and its alternatives are compared in finasteride alternatives, and other treatments in development, including clascoterone and PP405, are covered in new hair loss treatments 2026.
Why waiting has a cost
Pattern hair loss is progressive, and every treatment works best on follicles that are still producing hair. Starting a proven treatment now protects the hair you have, and a new pill can be added later if it is approved.
What it costs
Flagship Harley Street and Mayfair clinics commonly charge £600 to £850 or more per PRP session.
At The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness, there are 3 ways to begin.
A hair consultation with full scalp examination and trichoscopy is from £150, included at the first session when you choose a course, and is where suitability for oral minoxidil is assessed.
A single PRP session is from £450.
A course of 3 sessions is from £1,215, as explained in PRP hair package London.
