A PRP facial may offer a modest improvement in skin quality, but the evidence is not strong enough to promise a facelift effect, lasting rejuvenation or a predictable result. If you want a medical clinic rather than a medispa chain, The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness starts with an assessment of your skin and the change you want to see. We discuss whether PRP is a reasonable option, what the evidence can support and what another treatment might do better.

What a PRP facial involves

PRP is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. The platelets are concentrated, and the plasma is used in the proposed treatment area. A PRP facial can mean injections, use with microneedling or a combination. Ask exactly which procedure is proposed because they are not interchangeable.

Your own blood does not make the procedure risk free. Injections and microneedling can cause soreness, redness, swelling or bruising. Infection is a risk of procedures that break the skin. Sterile preparation and appropriate clinical training matter.

What the evidence supports

A 2024 overview of systematic reviews found that evidence for PRP in facial rejuvenation was limited by small studies, varied methods and the quality of the reviews. Positive reports of skin texture or satisfaction should not be turned into a guarantee of collagen growth or visible age reversal.

The right question is whether the likely scale of improvement is worth the time, discomfort and cost for your goal. A modest change in texture is different from lifting loose skin, filling a deep hollow or removing pigmentation. A clinic should make that distinction before treatment.

PRP versus other skin treatments

Microneedling targets controlled skin injury and may be considered for some texture or scar concerns. Fillers aim to add volume. Treatments aimed at pigment, redness or skin laxity work in different ways. The best option depends on the cause of the concern, not on which procedure is described as natural.

PRP should not be sold as a replacement for every treatment. A medical assessment can help separate uneven texture from active inflammation, pigment change, volume loss or another problem that needs different care. Tell the clinician about active skin disease and previous reactions.

Choosing a clinic rather than a sales package

Ask who performs the procedure, how your suitability is assessed and what will happen if it does not help. Ask for a realistic review point, photographs under comparable conditions and written aftercare. A good consultation should leave you clearer about the limits, not simply more excited about the treatment.

Facial PRP pricing

At the upper end of the London market, Harley Street Skin Clinic lists facial PRP at £810 with a lead doctor. This is a named provider tier, not an identical treatment comparison, and price does not prove effectiveness. Its published price list was checked in October 2026. Facial PRP at The London PRP Clinic by The Wellness is £450 per session. Under eye PRP alone is £385. Confirm the procedure, treatment area, any combined treatment and the total price before booking. The cost of an appointment is not evidence that it will achieve your preferred result.

Preparation and aftercare

Explain your medicines, allergies, bleeding history and any recent infection or active skin condition. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice. Ask how discomfort will be managed, what to avoid before the appointment and when you can return to your usual skin products, exercise and make up.

Aftercare should explain what is expected and how to get help. Increasing pain, spreading redness, fever or unusual skin changes need medical advice. Any new visual symptoms after an injection near the eyes require urgent assessment. Do not dismiss those symptoms as ordinary bruising.

Questions people ask before a PRP facial

Is it worth it or hype? It can be a reasonable choice for selected concerns after assessment, but the evidence does not support dramatic or guaranteed rejuvenation claims. Decide against a realistic goal, not a before and after image alone.

How long do results last? Studies use varied procedures and follow up periods. There is no reliable universal duration. Agree how improvement will be assessed and do not assume a maintenance schedule is necessary before you know whether you responded.

Is it the same as a vampire facial? The term is used for different procedures. Ask whether you are having injections, microneedling with PRP or both. A familiar treatment name does not define the protocol.

Can I have it before an event? Allow time for possible redness, bruising and swelling. Tell the clinician your event date before booking. A promise of no downtime is not appropriate for everyone.
