PRP recovery: a timeline, an aftercare checklist and the red flags

One of the first questions people ask before PRP is simple: what will I look and feel like afterwards, and when can I get back to normal? This guide gives you a practical timeline, an aftercare checklist, and the red flags that mean you should call us. It is written for busy people in London who want to plan around work and events.

Short answer

The 2025 systematic review of 14 studies of PRP and PRF for periorbital rejuvenation reported temporary redness, swelling and bruising, with one fainting episode. These findings concern the under-eye area, not a recovery timetable for all PRP treatments. NICE HTG299 (tendinopathy) and HTG497 (knee osteoarthritis) identify no major safety concerns but describe efficacy evidence as inadequate or limited. Ask the treating clinician for a recovery and follow-up plan for the specific area being treated.

A simple timeline

  • The cited reviews do not establish one recovery timetable for scalp, facial and joint PRP. Ask your treating clinician how long symptoms may last, what would need review and when to assess response. A three-session price package is not a prescribed schedule for everyone.

Timelines differ by area treated and by person. Plan any important event with your doctor at consultation rather than assuming.

Aftercare checklist

  • Ask for written aftercare specific to the area treated, expected symptoms and contact details. Ask when treatment will be reviewed and how response will be measured.

Before your session

  • Prepare questions about benefits, risks and alternatives. Bring a list of medicines, supplements and allergies, as NHS What to ask your doctor recommends: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/gps/what-to-ask-your-doctor/ Ask whether any preparation is needed rather than relying on a generic recovery plan.

Red flags: contact us promptly

  • NHS Cellulitis advises an urgent GP appointment or NHS 111 for skin that is painful, hot and swollen: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cellulitis/ NHS Vision loss advises urgent GP/111 help for changes such as blurred or double vision, and A&E or 999 if you suddenly cannot see or have sudden severe eye pain: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vision-loss/

Prices

Hair PRP is £450 per session, or £1,215 for a course of three. Facial PRP is £450 per session including under-eye, and under-eye only is £385. Joint PRP is £750 per session. Prices are confirmed before you book.
