Global health benefits for a team in several countries

A company with people in several countries usually holds a separate health plan in each, bought from different providers, priced in different currencies and renewed in different months. One global membership replaces that with one fee, one concierge and the same care in every city, which is simpler to run and easier for people to use.

What it costs

What a company in several countries holds today

Most firms build their health benefits country by country. A private medical plan in the United Kingdom, a different insurer in Singapore, a mandatory scheme in Dubai, a virtual GP bought for one office, a health assessment provider for the leaders, and an employee assistance programme beside them. Each was chosen well for its own market.

The result is a set of contracts that share nothing, each with its own limits, claim forms, renewal date and helpline. A person who moves from the London office to Hong Kong changes plan, doctor and paperwork on the same day.

Why the cost moves differently in every country

Medical costs rise faster than prices in general, and at a different rate in every market. One global survey of benefits costs projects a worldwide medical trend of 9.0% for 2027, down from 9.8% in 2026, and more than three times the rate of inflation [1] [2].

The spread between countries is wide. The same survey projects 14.7% for Singapore, 9% for Hong Kong, 4.9% for Australia and 3.1% for Japan in 2027 [2]. A survey of 346 insurers in 82 countries put the global average at 10.3% for 2026, with Asia Pacific at 14% [3]. American employers expect a median rise of 9.2% in 2027 [4].

With a separate plan in each country, a finance team negotiates each of those rises on its own, in its own month. With one membership it negotiates once.

What travel does to the people who do it

The people who move between your offices carry a measurable health cost. In a study of the medical records of 13,057 people, those who travelled more than 20 nights a month were 2.61 times as likely to rate their health as fair or poor as those who travelled less [5].

A later study of the same population found that frequent travellers were more likely to report trouble sleeping, symptoms of anxiety and symptoms of depression, and the authors concluded that employers should help people stay well while they travel [6].

Risk is also moving faster than many firms can plan for. In a survey of 860 business leaders responsible for their people’s safety, 43% said health risks had intensified in the past year [7].

How a company moves onto one membership without disruption

Begin with the people who travel most and the leaders who carry the firm. They feel the difference first, and their experience shapes how the rest of the company hears about it.

Then follow the calendar rather than fighting it. Each national plan comes up for renewal on its own date, and that date is the natural moment to move the people it covers. Nobody loses cover in between, and nobody is asked to change doctors in the middle of a course of treatment.

Keep one list of who is covered where, owned by one person in the people team and mirrored by one concierge on our side. The questions that used to go to six suppliers now go to one place, and the answers come back the same day.

Five questions to ask of any global health benefit

The answers decide what your people will actually receive, more than the name of the plan.

  • Is the care the same in every city we work in, or only where the plan was bought?
  • Who arranges an appointment, the person or someone on their behalf?
  • Is inpatient care included, and who follows a person from admission to home?
  • How many renewal dates, invoices and currencies will we hold?
  • What does the company see, and what stays with the person?

What one membership changes

The Wellness for teams is one membership for the whole firm, its leaders and their families. It holds outpatient, inpatient and dental care, diagnostics and health programmes in 13 cities, and one concierge arranges every appointment. The company receives one invoice, renews once and sees anonymised reporting only.

Outside the United States it takes the place of national plans at each renewal. In the United States it sits beside the medical plan as the global layer, with the leaders, travel and dental cover in one place.

Questions

What are global employee health benefits?

They are the health cover and care a company provides to people in more than one country. Most firms hold a separate plan in each country. A global membership holds the same care for everyone, in every city, on one contract.

How much are medical costs rising for employers?

One global survey projects a worldwide medical trend of 9.0% for 2027, with wide differences between countries, from 14.7% in Singapore to 3.1% in Japan [2].

Can one plan cover people in different countries?

Yes. The Wellness for teams covers people in 13 cities through one membership. Outside the United States it replaces national plans at each renewal, and in the United States it sits beside the medical plan.

How long does it take to move a company onto one membership?

Leaders can start in one morning and the whole firm can be live within 10 days, timed to the renewal date of the plans it replaces.
