What it costs, in full, before you book.
A first consultation with a consultant paediatrician is £350 by secure video or £395 in person, and lasts 45 minutes. A follow-up is £295 by video or £340 in person, over 30 minutes. Prescriptions and referral letters issued during the appointment are included. Tests, imaging and vaccines are charged separately and quoted before anything is done.
Why we publish this
Because you should be able to find out what an appointment costs without ringing anyone. Cost is the single most common thing parents search for after "private paediatrician", and a surprising number of London clinics — including large hospitals — publish nothing at all, which leaves you either guessing or making a phone call to be sold to.
Every figure on this page is the whole fee for that appointment. There is no booking fee, no admin fee and no separate charge for the consultant’s time spent reading your records beforehand or writing your plan afterwards.
What is charged separately
Anything that involves a laboratory, a scanner or a vial. Blood tests, imaging, allergy testing and vaccines are quoted to you before they are arranged, and you decide. Reports and letters requested after the appointment — for a school, a nursery, an insurer or another clinician — are quoted separately too.
- Blood tests, imaging and allergy testing — quoted before arranging
- Vaccines — quoted per vaccine, plus administration
- School, nursery and third-party reports requested after the appointment
- Repeat prescriptions issued between appointments
Insurance
You are given an itemised receipt suitable for a claim. Cover varies by policy, so check your eligibility before booking.
One thing to check specifically: most insurers require a named referral for a patient aged seventeen or under, and will not accept an open referral. That is the most common reason a paediatric claim is refused, and it is worth one phone call before you book.
Paying, and changing your mind
Appointments are paid for when you book. If you need to move or cancel, tell us as far ahead as you can and we will move it without fuss — children are unpredictable and we would rather you rebooked than came to an appointment nobody can use.
Common questions
- How much does a private paediatrician cost in London?
- At The Wellness a first consultation is £350 by video or £395 in person and lasts 45 minutes; a follow-up is £295 by video or £340 in person. Across London, in-person first consultations generally run between £200 and £360, though appointment lengths vary considerably and some of those are with a GP rather than a consultant paediatrician.
- Why does the in-person appointment cost more?
- The £45 difference is the physical examination and the room. The consultation is the same length either way and the consultant’s time and thinking are the same, so the difference reflects only what is added.
- Is the prescription included?
- Yes, when it is issued during your appointment. Repeat prescriptions requested between appointments are charged separately.
- Do you charge for the letter to my GP?
- No. Writing to your GP with your consent is part of the consultation fee.
