Inflammation
hs-CRP
High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein. Measured in clinic at The Wellness in Marylebone, read by a doctor.
What It Is
C-reactive protein is made by the liver as part of the body’s response to inflammation. The high-sensitivity version of the test can detect the low levels of background inflammation that an ordinary CRP test would miss.
Why It Matters
Persistent low-grade inflammation is thought to play a role in several long-term conditions, including cardiovascular disease. Clinicians measure hs-CRP to gauge that background level and to add context to other markers of heart and metabolic health.
What Results Can Suggest
A raised hs-CRP can suggest inflammation somewhere in the body, which may be as transient as a recent cold or minor injury, or may reflect something more persistent. A single high reading is often repeated before conclusions are drawn. Results should always be discussed with a doctor who knows your history.
