Using your Aviva cover with a private GP in London
Aviva recognises Dr Adel Elalfy, who leads primary care at The Wellness, as a GP. The Wellness sees Aviva members the same day in Marylebone and Belgravia or at their hotel, and the report goes to the member and the case manager as soon as the consultation ends.

If you are a Aviva member
Aviva recognises Dr Adel Elalfy, who leads primary care at The Wellness, as a GP. Whether a visit is covered still depends on your policy, and we check it with you before you are seen. Where direct settlement is not in place, you pay at the visit and we give you an itemised invoice and medical report for your claim. Most Aviva policies pay for consultant care after a GP referral. Our GPs refer to consultants Aviva will fund, and we check the name with you before the letter is written.
Aviva’s own guidance is that a GP appointment is not what the policy pays for, so most Aviva members pay for the GP visit and claim for the specialist care that follows.

Questions
Will Aviva pay for my GP appointment at The Wellness?
It usually does not. Aviva says its health insurance does not cover charges to see a GP, private or NHS. You pay for the GP appointment, and the referral our GP writes is what Aviva needs to consider the specialist care after it.
What does it mean that Aviva recognises your GP?
Aviva treats a referral letter from Dr Adel Elalfy as a GP referral for a claim. Whether an appointment is covered is still decided by your policy.
Should I ask for an open referral?
Aviva’s own claims guidance suggests it. An open referral names the kind of specialist you need without naming a person, which lets Aviva offer you a consultant it will fund. Our GPs write either kind, and we ask which you want.
When do I contact Aviva?
After the GP appointment and before any test or treatment. Aviva asks you to start the claim in MyAviva or by phone, and the referral letter from the GP is ready the same day.
Can I use Aviva Digital GP and still see you in person?
Yes. Aviva’s video GP app is part of the policy. Some members use it first and come to us when they want to be examined in person in London, or need a doctor at home.
