Using your AXA Health cover with a private GP in London
A AXA Health member in London can be seen by a private doctor the same day, in clinic or at the hotel. We can ask AXA Health for a guarantee of payment before the visit, with the member’s agreement.

If you are a AXA Health member
Whether a visit is covered depends on your policy. With your agreement we can ask AXA Health for a guarantee of payment before you are seen. Where direct settlement is not in place, you pay at the visit and we give you an itemised invoice and medical report for your claim. Most AXA Health policies pay for consultant care after a GP referral. Our GPs refer to consultants AXA Health will fund, and we check the name with you before the letter is written.
AXA Health members on the guided option need an open referral, and our GPs write that kind as a matter of course when you tell us your plan.

Questions
Is a face to face GP visit covered by AXA Health?
AXA Health says it does not usually cover face to face private GP fees. You pay us for the appointment, and the referral the GP writes is what AXA Health looks at for the specialist care.
I am on the AXA Health guided option. What kind of referral do I need?
An open referral, which names the type of specialist rather than a person. Tell us when you request the appointment and the GP writes it that way.
Where does the AXA Health authorisation number go?
To the specialist or hospital that treats you, for their bill. AXA Health gives it when it authorises the treatment, after you have seen the GP.
Why see you rather than AXA Doctor at Hand?
Doctor at Hand is online. Some members want to be examined in person in London, or need a doctor at home or at a hotel, and come to us for that.
Do you bill AXA Health directly?
No. We have no agreement with AXA Health. You pay at the visit and we give you an itemised invoice and a medical report.
