PRP for Hair · Marylebone
Autologous, physician-supervised, consultation first
PRP for hair uses platelets from your own blood, injected into thinning areas of the scalp. It works best on recent pattern thinning, alongside medical treatment, and does not regrow a bald scalp. A consultation is £150 and redeemable, and a session is £450, usually three a month apart.
A doctor examines the scalp and takes the history, because patchy loss, scarring loss and shedding after illness each need something different. Ferritin, thyroid and vitamin D are checked where the history suggests them, and standardised photographs are taken so the result can be judged fairly months later.
A small blood sample is drawn, similar to a routine blood test. Eat breakfast and drink two large glasses of water beforehand, which makes the draw easier.
The sample is centrifuged for 10-15 minutes to concentrate the platelets, and the platelet layer is prepared for injection. Numbing cream is used for comfort.
PRP is injected into the thinning areas with fine needles. Three sessions a month apart is the usual course, then change is judged against your photographs at three to six months.
Candidacy
The evidence is for androgenetic alopecia, which in men recedes at the temples and crown and in women widens the parting. Most trials found more hairs per square centimetre after a course than before it, or than on untreated scalp.
The trials are small and preparation differs from clinic to clinic, so the honest expectation is an improvement in density rather than regrowth. Thinning caused by low iron, a thyroid problem or a recent illness is treated by treating the cause, and PRP is not the answer to any of them.

Results and aftercare
Because PRP comes from your own blood there is no allergy to it. The main effects are soreness at the injection sites for a day or two and a small risk of bruising or infection. Any change shows at around three months and is judged against your photographs at six.
The effect fades without maintenance. Pattern hair loss continues underneath, so PRP needs a top-up every 3 to 6 months and usually a daily treatment alongside to hold the gain. Stop aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil for 7 days before a session unless a doctor prescribed them, wash your hair that morning, and skip styling products.
A consultation comes first and its fee is redeemable against treatment. Package pricing available: 3-session packages offer a 15% discount, 6-session packages a 20% discount, completed within 12 months.

A consultation tells you whether PRP can help your pattern of loss before you spend anything on treatment. The £150 fee comes off your first session.
At The Wellness a session is £450. A consultation comes first at £150, redeemable against treatment. Most courses are three sessions a month apart, and package pricing offers 15% off three sessions or 20% off six, completed within 12 months.
The usual course is three sessions a month apart, then a top-up every 3 to 6 months. Change is judged against standardised photographs taken at your first visit, at around three months and again at six.
The evidence is for pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia): most trials found more hairs per square centimetre after a course than before it, or than on untreated scalp. The trials are small, so the honest expectation is improved density rather than regrowth, and it works best alongside medical treatment. It does not regrow a bald scalp.
PRP is not the treatment for complete baldness, scarring alopecia, or patchy loss with a smooth scalp, and those need a diagnosis first. Thinning caused by low iron, a thyroid problem or a recent illness is treated by treating the cause. That is what the consultation is for.
There is minimal discomfort. We use topical numbing cream before treatment, and most patients describe mild pressure with occasional pinching. The blood draw is similar to a standard blood test, and some tenderness can last a day or two afterwards.
Stop aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil for 7 days before a session unless a doctor prescribed them, because they reduce how well platelets work. Do not stop a prescribed blood thinner without asking. Wash your hair on the morning of the session, skip styling products, eat breakfast and drink two large glasses of water.
Downtime is minimal: slight redness for 24-48 hours. We advise not washing your hair for 24 hours and avoiding intense exercise for 48 hours.
PRP is non-surgical, needs no downtime, and stimulates the follicles you still have. A transplant is surgery that moves follicles to a bald area, and we refer for it when the scalp has no follicles left to treat. Many patients use PRP alongside or after a transplant.
The effect fades without maintenance because pattern hair loss continues underneath. A top-up every 3 to 6 months, usually alongside a daily treatment, holds the gain. A course that shows nothing by six months is stopped rather than extended.
